Verifying Installation with AnswerTest

Perhaps the easiest way to verify an installation and configuration of a TeleFlow Server and telephony hardware is correct, running AnswerTest minimizes the variables of getting a custom TeleFlow application running.

To set up your TeleFlow Server to run the AnswerTest application and to ensure the most useful outcome of testing your setup, follow these instructions:

In TeleFlow LineList ((Start >> Programs >> TeleFlow >> Server Tools >> TeleFlow LineList):

  • Open Default.tal (Default.tal ships with TeleFlow, and will be in C:\Program Files\TeleFlow by default)
  • Ensure that the Filename indicates the appropriate drive/directory. (Which should lead to a file named "ANSWERTEST.TAP", and will be correct by default.)
  • The Protocol should match the telephony hardware you are using. (By default, the TAL assumes an analog board, which means it sets the protocol to "lps0".)
  • Restart count should be 0, No limit should not be checked, Log output should be Errors only, and Append to file should not be checked
  • The default TAL file has only 4 ports/channels of the application running. If your production system has cards that add up to a greater number of ports, right-click the 4 line in the TAL, choose Replicate, and add the appropriate number of ports to the list.
  • Save and close the TAL file.

In TeleFlow Config (Start >> Programs >> TeleFlow >> Server Tools >> TeleFlow Config):

  • Ensure "Telephony Hardware" matches the hardware you are running.
  • Set "Active Application List File" to the Default.tal file verified/modified in TeleFlow LineList.
  • Make sure "Log Directory" is a valid directory path.
  • Check "Unlimited Log File Size".
  • Set "Log Lines" to 2000.
  • Check "Start TeleFlow Service Automatically".

Before restarting the computer, ensure the following:

  • The log directory for TeleFlow is empty (clear any files in it).
  • The services for the telephony hardware will start automatically with Windows.

Once the steps above are complete, restart the computer. After logging in:

  • Wait a couple minutes before proceeding with the remaining steps.
  • Verify that board services have started.
  • Run TeleFlow Monitor to see if your applications are running with green lights, or if they have stopped with errors (red lights).

If the system has started with green lights, call the phone number to reach the system to see if it answers.

If it starts with red lights, review the logs. The logs should have only a single attempt to start the application and wait for an incoming call. This means the log will show the minimum amount of output with whatever error(s) are preventing the system from running normally.
