This section provides the check list and installation instructions on how to install NeoSpeech Text to Speech, or TTS.
You will need to get the MAC address from the computer on which the TTS will be installed. You can use TeleFlow Register to find this address, or run the following command from a command prompt.
Send the MAC address to NeoSpeech with the license count requested, and they will respond with a license (ascii) file. Mail to support@neospeech.com. If you do not have an account with NeoSpeech, you can purchase it from People and Companies
If you would like to listen to how well NeoSpeech synthesizes the human voice, try the demo option on the NeoSpeech website:

Install Software
Downloading
Download the installation files to the local computer. Extract all files to a temporary folder.
Current Version
Voice Text Server 3.9:
http://engenic.com/core/TTS39.zip
NOTE: This is a 350MB file.
Once it is downloaded, un-zip into a temporary folder, then follow the setup instructions below.
Note that this version of NeoSpeech VoiceText TTS is only supported in TeleFlow Server version 2009.4.7 and newer. See TeleFlow Download to obtain the current version of TeleFlow.
Older Version
Voice Text Server 3.0:
http://www.engenic.com/core/TTS30.zip
Important notes:
- As of version 2009.4.7, TeleFlow Server natively supports VoiceText version 3.9.
- VoiceText 3.0 is supported in TeleFlow Server versions 2009.3.3 and older.
- You can revert TeleFlow's native TTS support to VoiceText version 3.0, with the following procedure:
- to be performed after TeleFlow has been installed
- stop all TeleFlow programs
- ensure TeleFlow Server (tfserver.exe) is not running as a service
- open a Windows command prompt
- enter the following commands:
C: CD "\Program Files\TeleFlow" ttsRevert.cmd
Installation
These instructions assume you extracted the files into C:\Temp.
Run the following programs, in order; for all installation options, choose the default
- Run C:\Temp\VT_Kate_M08_350_Master_FileIO\setup.exe
- Run C:\Temp\VT_Kate_M08_350_SDK\setup.exe
After you are done with the voices, then the server can be installed:
- Run C:\Temp\20090213 TTS Server 3.9.5.6\setup.exe
Important Notes:
- If you don't specify the default on all installer options, TTS Server will not run properly.
- The voice engine(s) must be installed first.
Configuration
Set the initialization file settings:
- Open the file 'C:\ttssrv.ini' in an editor program, such as Notepad:
- Change the 'YumiSelect' setting to 0
- Change the 'KateSelect' setting to 1
- Ensure all other speaker '...Select' settings are set to 0
- Save and close the file
Licensing
Note: The verification file is shipped separately. If you do not have a verification file, contact Engenic or NeoSpeech to obtain one.
- Copy your license verification file, 'verification.txt', into the following folder:
- C:\VW\VTSvc\verify
Starting
Start the VT Server service.
- Restart the computer
- Run Windows Service Control Manager
Start .. Settings .. Control Panel .. Administrative Tools .. Services
- Find and start the 'VT Server' service
Register NeoSpeech
Install the license file into the following directory:
- c:\VW\VTSvc\verify\
This assumes you've installed NeoSpeech into the default location. You should re-start the "VoiceText Server" service after the license file is in place. If in doubt, rebooting the box will absolutely ensure this will happen.
Testing
You can run the NeoSpeech demo program to try it out:
- C:\VW\VTSvc\test-client\TTSSrvClient_Uni.exe
The Text-to-speech step in TeleFlow works similar to this demo except that it receives its data as parameters to the step, and outputs the audio over the phone (or TeleFlow Simulator).
Notes
The computer running the TTS server must have 1.0 GB of RAM in order for TTS to run at an appreciable speed. It will work with less (it has been tested at 512 MB), but it will be slow. With the recommended amount of memory, it converts very fast.
